Quirky Item of the Week: Kindle Fire

Love my new Kindle Fire! I have been using the Kindle app on my iPhone for some time now and while that’s great too, there are some cons to it such as getting interrupted by a phone call, text message or Facebook notification. Also, not being able to read in the sun.

5 Reasons… I Cannot Wait for Game of Thrones Season Three

For any of you who have read the books, you know that Season 2 left out a bit of the second book of the Song of Fire and Ice Series, Clash of Kings, and jumped ahead to some of what happened in the third book, A Storm of Swords. Well, the show’s producers, Benioff and […]

Pulling the Plug on Cable and Satellite Television

About two years ago my fiancee and I decided the cable bill was to damn high (around the time “the rent was too damn high”). We could not see how paying $200 a month for cable was worth it when, for the most part, there was never anything good on our 200+ channels. Most of what we watched was stuff we DVR-ed and the rest was from Netflix. We took the leap and decided to cancel cable and instead watch all of our television shows via internet streaming. We have been doing so happily ever since, as have many other Americans in the last two years. I am going to tell you how we did it and give you a little nudge to try it too.

Easy Caprese Recipe

I enjoyed my first authentic Caprese Salad when I was studying abroad in Italy. I have been trying to recreate it since then. I think that I have come pretty close. The taste of the mildly salty mozzarella cheese with the vine ripe summer tomatoes and the compliment of the fresh garden basil together is heaven in your mouth. I didn’t even mention the good olive oil and balsamic vinegar! To tell you the truth, I think what would make this recipe perfect would be if I could find some fresh buffalo mozzarella in the states! I’m pretty sure that is the key to the perfect Caprese, however…. This recipe still hits the spot every time.

How to Enjoy the Sun Without the Burn or Worry!

Summer is here! The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and trips to the beach will become a nice getaway from reality. Who doesn’t love a nice beach tan? Although nice bronzed, sun kissed skin can make you look better in pictures, the horrifying truth is that too much of the sun can cause health problems in the future; wrinkles, sun spots, dry patches, and even cancer. A nice few years of tan skin is not worth many years of wrinkles, uneven colored skin in the future or even dire health problems. Here are some tips on how to keep you and your family safe this summer in the sun!

Clothing Stain Removal 101

Quirky Home: Clothing Stain Removal 101

I am a clumsy person. I can trip over thin air and will walk into anything withing a five foot radius of me. Knowing this, it should not surprise you that I often wind up staining my clothes. Sometimes its a spilled cup of coffee, other times it’s blood from a scraped knee. I never know how I’m going to potentially ruin an item of clothing, I just know it’s bound to happen. Over the years I’ve complied a a bunch of tricks and quick fixes to try and keep my clothes in rotation instead of the garbage bin. Hopefully some of them will help you to do the same!

Painted Chair Cushion DIY by Prudent Baby

I am a big fan of home decor makeovers, especially fun stuff you can do to completely transform the look of drab and boring furniture. This Painted Chair Cushion DIY from Prudent Baby caught my eye because of how drastically (and wonderfully for that matter) it can be used to change the look of any old chair.

Quirky Item of the Week: Brooklyn Brew Beer Making Kit

I like flavored beers. I once spent two hours at total one making a mix and match six pack because I could not decide which flavors to buy and for some reason thought buying more than six was just wrong. I never gave much thought to the idea of making beer (to be honest I had no clue how beer was made, it always magically appeared in my bottles, cans, and glasses) until I saw a show on the cooking channel where people were brewing jalapeno beer in their kitchen. I immediately became obsessed with the concept resulting in this week’s Item of the Week: The Brooklyn Brew Beer Making Kit!
