I will admit, I have an addiction. Every morning when I wake up to my iPhone ringing… The first thing I do after I turn off the alarm is hit the Cupcakes and Cashmere app and read Emily Schuman’s latest blog entry. I have been doing this since I was introduced to her blog over two years ago. Funnily enough, I can’t even remember who told me about it but I want to thank them because every morning, I wake to an inspirational blog from my favorite blogger.
I actually had the pleasure of meeting Emily in LA when I was there on vacation! We had been talking back and forth a few times through various networking sites ie. Twitter and Facebook. I was ecstatic when she agreed to meet with me for coffee at her favorite spot in LA called The Urthe Cafe. Throughout the hour we talked about her accomplishments and her work with Coach (of course I have the bag she created) and about her upcoming projects. She proceeded to tell me about her book! I was very eager to know more and she explained that it was going to be a book divided by the four seasons with workings from her blog and her life in it. I was so glad to have met her because she is and inspiration to not just me but to many girls and women around the world!
This summer, her book was published. What an accomplishment! I read it in literally one sitting. She call’s it: “A guide for defining your style, reinventing your space, and entertaining with ease”. From telling us how to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookie, how to organize a bookshelf and showing us a guide to a haunting Halloween party – there is something for everyone in this book.
I love how she divide’s the book into seasons starting with the Spring. She states that she feels “Spring is the time for new beginnings. Everything is fresh and vibrant….”. I agree with her. I want to mention three of my favorite topics from each season that I think are must reads:
1. Closet Clutter Clothes Uncovered
2. 20 Ideas for how to spend a Spring Day
3. Spring Cocktail: Mint Julep (I’ve always wanted to know how to make one of these!)
1. How To: Manicure
2. Very Berry Pie with the Perfect Piecrust
3. Entertaining in the Summer
1. A Haunting Halloween
2. Homemade Pizza Dough
3. How To: Bright Lipstick
1. Buying the Perfect Gift
2. Winterized Beauty
3. Crash Course on Cheese
Emily shows readers through her book that entertaining can be a breeze, baking can be fun, fashion doesn’t always have to be the up and coming and when you take your time, a manicure and doing your hair doesn’t have to be a hassle! I know I struggled with these things before I started reading her blog. I never knew what was fashion forward, I got frustrated with doing my hair and you could just forget taking the time to do a manicure by myself! Now, I find pleasure in doing all of those things! Especially manicure’s. My nail polish collection has grown very much because of Emily’s blog and book! What’s nice about her book is it takes all the things we love about her blog and let’s readers basically have something that they can hold and look at whenever they want.
To tell you the truth, I already took her advice from the section in her book that she wrote called “Closet Clutter Clothes Uncovered”. She talks about how you should not have items in your wardrobe that you do not automatically reach for at least twice a year. I took this advice and I went with it. I de-cluttered my closet with all of those clothes that I never even wear. And yes, there were some things that I was holding onto because I thought… “Hmmmm… maybe I can fit into this again or I do not want to throw this away because I had so many great memories wearing it”. All of those clothes are in bags waiting to go to Goodwill and I am happy about it. De-Cluttering allowed me space in my closet that I had been missing for a while which was good. So, a big thanks to Emily for helping me out on that one!
