Quirky Item of the Week: Sardine Can Survival Kit

This week’s quirky item might just save your life! The Sardine Can Survival Kit contains everything you might need in an emergency cleverly sealed in a watertight sardine can (minus the noxious fish). The kit contains one of each of the following: pack of acetaminophen, adhesive bandage, alcohol prep, antibiotic ointment, book of matches, tea bag, chewing gum, compass, pack of sugar, whistle, salt packet, energy nugget, duct tape, fire starter cube, wire clip, first aid instructions, fish hook and line, note paper, pencil, razor blade, safety pin, signal mirror and a waterproof bag (I am guessing to store all this stuff once you break the can’s seal along with other valuables).

Until a recent hurricane threat, I had no idea how many things you might just need in a case of an emergency. Some of the stuff is a little MacGyverish (I’m not sure what I would really need gum and wire clip for in an emergency, but maybe that’s just me), but most of it is extremely useful. When you’re without power, matches and fire starters are crucial and first aid items are always a must for emergencies. This little kit is perfect to store at home or in the car in case you ever come across a situation where supplies are not readily available  and is also a great gift for hikers and campers since it’s lightweight and can be easily stored in a knapsack.
