Look out, Chicago. Your about to go dystopian.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Illinois Film Office along with the film studio Cinespace recruited the eagerly anticipated blockbuster Divergent into the city. This means a lot of extra cash for a city already familiar with Hollywood megaliths rolling into town. Chicago also hopes to draw the same reaction from the mostly teen audience that was similarly experienced with the hit Twilight and The Hunger Games franchises.
What makes this filming news particularly good for fans of the book series written by Veronica Roth is that Divergent is actually set in a dystopian version of Chicago. This could indicate that the writers and producers for the film are working hard to keep the movie as true to the novel as possible.
Divergent, starring The Descendents breakout Shailene Woodley as Tris, is about a society in Chicago that is divided into five factions based on various virtues deemed appropriate. As of yet, no actor has been named to play opposite Woodley as the mysterious Four, but earlier reports suggested that the role had been narrowed down to four contenders.
Do you think Chicago was the right choice as the location to film Divergent?
