Jamie McGuire’s New York Times Bestselling Beautiful Disaster is slowly but surely making its way to the big screen! The book tells the story of Abby, a girl trying to escape her past by adopting a prim and proper look and lifestyle in college, whose plans are derailed when she begins falling for Travis Maddox. Maddox is a tattooed, motorcycle riding, bare knuckle fighting bad boy, with some issues of his own. He’s not only the talk of the university for his exploits with the ladies on campus, but also the cousin of Abby’s best friend America’s boyfriend (got all that?), which puts Abby right in his crosshairs. What happens next is an addictive love story that had readers everywhere flipping pages as quickly as they could to find out the fate of these beautifully flawed characters.
Many are calling Beautiful Disaster the next Fifty Shades of Grey, partially because of the troubled romance aspect and partly because of the book’s evolution from self publishing to bestseller, but in my opinion the similarities end there. Where Fifty Shades of Grey is all “inner goddess” and where will “it” happen next, most of the excitement in Beautiful Disaster comes from the romance and build up to the steam; perhaps that’s why both Warner Bros and CBS Films were originally trying to get their hands on the rights to Beautiful Disaster, which will undoubtedly be easier to adapt into feature film than Fifty Shades.
Warner Bros won the rights bidding war and both a producer and screenwriter are already attached to the film. Donald De Line, whose credits include I Love You Man, Green Lantern, and Michael Bay’s latest, Pain and Gain, is reportedly set to produce and Julia Hart has been hired to write the screenplay. Hart is also slated as screenwriter for The Keeping Room, a Civil War drama directed by Daniel Barber and starring Olivia Wilde and Hailee Steinfeld.
As of publication, there still isn’t any talk of a director being attached to the Beautiful Disaster film or any casting news, although there is no shortage of fan opinions on who should play the leading roles. We won’t know much about possible casting until more of the key players behind the movie’s creation are in place, but what we do know is some of the actors Jamie McGuire could see playing the parts. In an August 2012 interview with Maryse’s Book Blog, McGuire said she didn’t have anyone in mind for the female lead Abby, but she did have an opinion on Travis, America, and Shepley! McGuire named actor Chris Hemsworth as her “first choice” for Travis after seeing his performances in Thor and The Avengers going as far as to say, “Chris could definitely nail the fierce and soft sides of Travis in a way few actors could.” As for best friend America, McGuire thought actress Britney Snow would be “fantastic” and Cam Gigandet would be “the perfect” Shepley.
While you wait for more Beautiful Disaster production news to be released, you can get your Beautiful Disaster fix by reading Walking Disaster, the Travis Maddox Point of View Sequel when it comes out in April 2013.

I don’t know how I would feel about those actors but I sure know that I am ready and waiting for a movie of this incredible book. I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve read this book. It’s too good to be true!
I’m sorry but I do not see C. H as Travis. I think Colton Haynes would be ideal for the role. Maybe Lucy Hale as Abby.
I think your cast ideas are perfect! That’s who I thought of anyway.. I can’t wait to see who they pick.
I like your choice better. I can totally see it working. I love Chris Hemsworth but I am not sure he would be good for the role…I am a little iffy on that.
IEEE Travis being Tom Hardy muscular and has the tats already!
Adam Levine would be the perfect Travis!
I could see Cam fitting this role very well, but what I want to know is how many 12 year olds have read this book for Nick Jonas to have so many votes. What’s going on with that?!
Guys, don’t judge the predicted actors. You will never know how they will truly perform until you see them in action : ).
I’d definitely see Tom Hardy as Travis. Or the Hemsworth brother who played Thor. Definitely not Adam Levine-he’s way to skinny. Either way i’m failing to see how this book (or even Fifty Shades) can become a good movie unless they add lots of extra plot to it. Don’t get me wrong BD is one of my fave romance novels of all time but I always feel like romance books make for better reading than viewing. I really hope the film is super successful but I don’t see it being a box office hit. (but then again all those bland Nicholas Sparks-based movies have done pretty well and BD had a better plot than they did so fingers crossed for Ms Mcguire)
im 15 years old i have read the book and its amazing very well detail.i am looking forward to seeing the movie. But i honestly think that “Matt Lanter” would make an amazing “Travis” because he has that bad boy look. “Ryan Guzman” as “Shepley” he has that innocent look and seems great for that part. “Alex Flinn” as “Parker” he has that blonde hair that she she had wrotein the book. “Emmy Rossum” as “abby” because she has that inosent but misterious look and last but not least “Blake Lively” as “America”. i think that they would be great for the movie “Beautiful Disaster” because they are young just like she had said in her book and amazing actors inmy opinion.
When I read Walking Disaster, I pictured Sean Faris as Travis. I think he would honesty be the perfect Trav.
Phoebe Tonkin or Diana Agron as Abby and Kellen Lutz as Travis plus your pics above for America and Shepley would be perfect.
Duh. Tom Hardy should be Travis. NO QUESTION.
i think Chris Hemsworth wouldn’t be good for Travis i think maybe Channing Tatum and Megan fox for Megan
Channing tatum is the perfect Travis! I see Amanda seyfried as America and Andrew Garfield as shep!
when I read the books the person I pictured as travis was M. Shadows. He would make a fantastic Travis! I can’t see anyone else playing him. I love C.H. but just not for playing Travis.
ryan guzman or colton hayes for travis
melissa benoist for abby (trust me, she could be innocent and insanely hot and she has chemistry with anyone)
I have three in mind that I think would fit Travis perfectly, and they are Tom Hardy, Matt Lanter and Cam Gigandet. However my only trouble beeing that they’re clearly not fresh out of their teens. Still thats not too big a deal only which could be overlooked by a bit of make up and lighting I’m sure.
As for Abby, I’m still undecided I’m not too fussy as long as its not Kristen Stewert.
I definitely pictured Mark Salling (Puckerman from Glee) as Travis. Am I the only one?! I think he would be fit perfectly!
