As an avid blog reader barely a day goes by without seeing a reference to ‘paleo diets’. For those who are unaware the paleolithic diet (or caveman diet) is a nutritional plan based around food types that were available to our ancestors nearly 2.5 million years ago. By eliminating grains, dairy and processed foods (among […]

St Patrick’s Day means two things to me (not being Irish, or even having visited Ireland) my annual tasting of Guinness to see if I like it yet – and this year I do! – and making Delia Smith’s Chocolate Guinness cake. After a little morning-after-the-night-before cake baking accident (maybe I’m more Irish than I […]

Chocolate cake is a guilty pleasure of mine, but not just any chocolate cake will do. When I am having a serious cake craving, there is nothing worse than breaking off what seems like a delicious bite only to find that what looked pretty on the plate is a dry bland lump in my mouth. Dry […]

I think most of us can agree that donuts are awesome. And what’s more awesome than a donut? How about a healthier donut that tastes just as good as it’s deep fried bad for you counterparts (two donuts would have also been a correct answer, but you catch my drift). I was really intrigued by […]

Not wanting to rely on the typical chocolate dessert I played around with other childhood memories, in the hope that one day I will get to experience a ‘White Christmas’ and my Grandmother’s brandy butter. The result, sweet white cupcakes with a hint of booze, the perfect way to finish Christmas dinner.

I love Halloween! It’s the perfect excuse to regress back to childhood; you get to dress up, watch films you know you shouldn’t because they’re scary and gorge yourself on more sweets than are good for you.

Butterbeer Cupcakes! You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy this yummy recipe from Pastry Affair, but it doesn’t hurt either. The “Butterbeer” Cupcake is actually a brown sugar cupcake with cream soda and butter flavor mixed in and a filling of butterscotch ganache. They are beautifully (and deliciously) topped off with a […]

I first began talking with Jenny when she started commenting on my blog posts here on The Daily Quirk. She was so sweet and I wanted to get to know her better. I searched her out and I found that she was an amazing foodie blogger from the UK. I instantly scrolled through her whole blog and […]

Whenever we visited my paternal grandparents at this time of year they would always take us out to collect wild blackberries which grow freely beside country paths in much of England. Hot mugs of tea were served when we returned to warm us up, whilst my Grandmother would get to work in the kitchen making this dessert.

There is nothing that I love more in the Fall than anything having to do with apples. They’re crisp, crunchy, in season and readily available. The French Apple Tarte is the perfect recipe to make during the Fall to represent the apples that are in season. Not to mention that it’ll add the most delicious […]

Dessert is my favorite food to eat, especially cookies and cake. It is just about the only thing that gets me in the kitchen using the stove (I love making cakes because you get to use icing and sprinkles and decorate it however you like)! Walking through a department store one day, my sister came across […]

I had never heard of Hummingbird Cake before I saw these cupcakes from Ambrosia Baking, but they were so gorgeous i had to find out more! Apparently, Hummingbird Cake is banana cake with pineapple, pecans, and cream cheese frosting, which sounded delicious (minus the pecans for my nut allergy). They get topped off with gorgeous dried […]

Anything with an oreo cookie crust is tops in my book. Combine that with layers of peanut butter and nutella goodness and you might just be my favorite person ever. Having said that, meet my new most favorite person ever, Lorie of Mississippi Kitchen, who did just that with her recipe for Layers of Love Torte! It is incredibly easy to make and requires almost no baking. And don’t let the word “torte” scare you, you can call it a pie if you like, just don’t tell Lorie!

I love Zucchini Bread, but I had never heard of Zucchini Muffins till I came across Nancy’s Recipe on the NancyCreative blog. I won’t lie I was a little intimidated by some of the ingredients in the recipe (which can be found here on her site), but experimenting in baking is one of my favorite pastimes and I was very happy I gave these a try!
